چکیده

This paper proposes design techniques for the efficient VLSI implementation of bit-serial multiplication over a modulus. These techniques reduce multiplication into simple cyclic shifts, where the number representation of the data is chosen appropriately. This representation will, in general, be highly redundant, implying a relatively poor throughput for the multiplier. It is then shown how, by splitting the multiplier into two pipelined multipliers, the throughput of the unit can be increased, whilst still retaining a cyclic-shift implementation. The split multiplier requires a mid-computation basis conversion, and the two number representations, used within the unit, are only moderately redundant. Thus, highthroughput, bit-serial multipliers are achieved, with most of the complexity contained within systolic basis converter modules. The multipliers are applicable to the VLSI implementation of high-throughput, signal processing operations performed over finite fields, in particular, transform and filter operations.

Design of algorithm-based fault-tolerant VLSI array processor - Computers and Digital Techniques [see also IEE Proceedings-Computers and Digital Techniques], IEE

In the paper a systematic design methodology which maps a matrix arithmetic algorithm to a fault-tolerant array processor with different topologies and dimensions is presented. The design issues to be addressed in the method are: (a) how to derive a VLSI array with different topologies and dimensions from the algorithm; (b) how to distribute the data processing to the PES so that a faulty PE wi...

Bit-serial and digit-serial GF(2m)Montgomery multipliers using linear feedback shift registers

This work presents novel multipliers for Montgomery multiplication defined on binary fields GF(2). Different to state of the art Montgomery multipliers, this work uses a Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) as the main building block. We studied different architectures for bit-serial and digit-serial Montgomery multipliers using the LFSR and the Montgomery factors x and x. The proposed multipl...

GF(2^m) Multiplication and Division Over the Dual Basis

In this paper an algorithm for GF(2") multiplication/division is presented and a new, more generalized definition of duality is proposed. From these the bit-serial Berlekamp multiplier is derived and shown to be a specific case of a more general class of multipliers. Furthermore, it is shown that hardware efficient, bit-parallel dual basis multipliers can also be designed. These multipliers hav...
